Pengenalan Awal dengan Linux

Pengguna Windows yang baru saja bermigrasi ke Linux, begitu Login dan masuk ke Desktop di

Linux, yang sering dicari adalah padanan fitur desktop yang biasa digunakan di Windows. Pada
tulisan kali ini, akan dijelaskan beberapa padanan fitur desktop dasar Windows untuk Linux,
khususnya untuk KDE Desktop di Mandrake Linux.

Start Menu
Kita mulai dari fitur yang sering kita pakai, yaitu Start Menu. Start Menu pada Linux terletak di
tempat yang sama dengan Windows, yaitu di sebelah pojok kiri bawah. Apabila kita klik akan
muncul menu-menu aplikasi yang telah kita install. Di Mandrake Linux, ini biasa disebut dengan
Mandrake Menu atau Start Applications.

Mirip dengan Quick Launch di Windows, Start Menu terletak dalam KDE Panel yang didalamnya
juga terdapat ikon-ikon lain yang sering dipakai, misalnya: Konsole, Home (File Manager),
Konqueror, Kmail, Mandrake Control Center, dsb.

Control Panel
Control Panel di Mandrake Linux diperankan oleh Mandrake Control Center dan KDE Control
Center. Mandrake Control Center memiliki banyak fungsi untuk konfigurasi sistem dan server
secara umum, baik masalah setting hardware, boot, network, konfigurasi server, mounting device,
software management, dsb. Sedangkan KDE Control Center ke arah konfigurasi desktop, user
interface, informasi hardware, dan juga dilengkapi sedikit tool konfigurasi sistem.

DOS Shell
Dibandingkan dengan Windows atau Macintosh, Linux lebih matang dan powerfull dalam masalah
shell. Ini dikarenakan pada sistem Linux sebelum GUI muncul, semua perintah dan task dijalankan
dengan shell. Secara default Mandrake Linux mengadopsi Bash Shell, salah satu shell yang cukup
ampuh dan banyak digunakan dalam distribusi Linux dewasa ini. Jalankan Bash Shell dengan
meng-klik gambar layar (Konsole) di KDE Panel.

Windows Explorer
Apabila di Windows anda biasa langsung klik Windows Explorer atau My Documents untuk
mengakses file. Di Linux juga tersedia fitur serupa. Fitur ini bisa dijalankan dengan meng-klik ikon
bergambar rumah (Home) di desktop atau KDE Panel. Fitur Home ini hakekatnya adalah program
bernama Konqueror. Apabila dalam Windows XP ini akan langsung menuju ke direktori
\Documents and Settings\username\ maka di Linux akan masuk ke direktori /home/username/.

Drive C (HDD), A (Floppy), dan CDROM
Anda kehilangan Drive A (FDD), C (HDD) dan CDROM di Linux ? Jangan khawatir, tidak hilang
kok, hanya nama dan tempat mount direktori saja yang berbeda. Di Mandrake Linux ketiganya bisa
diakses dari direktori dibawah /mnt. Gunakan ikon bergambar CDROM dan FDD untuk
mengaksesnya. Perlu di catat bahwa ketiga mount point ini bisa diubah ke nama direktori apapun,
sesuai dengan setting kita.
/mnt/cdrom untuk CDROM /mnt/floppy untuk FDD /mnt/win_c untuk HDD C

Add/Remove Program
Terbiasa asyik menggunakan Add/Remove Program di Windows Control Panel untuk memanage
program yang terinstall ? Di Mandrake Linux ada fitur RpmDrake. Bisa dijalankan melalui menu
Software Management di Mandrake Control Center, atau dari Start -> Configuration ->
Packaging.

File Sharing
Mirip dengan teknik share file di Windows Explorer, di Mandrake Linux kita bisa melakukannya
dengan membuka Konqueror, kemudian klik mouse kanan dan pilih share. Perlu dicatat bahwa ini
bisa berjalan dengan benar apabila kita sudah mengaktifkan setting Samba di Mandrake Control
Center.

Logout, Restart dan Shutdown
Terakhir, hal yang cukup penting diketahui juga adalah cara Logout, Restart dan Shutdown.
Tekniknya serupa dengan Windows, yaitu dengan meng-klik Start Menu dan pilih Logout.
Kemudian akan muncul konfirmasi window apakah anda mau melakukan Logout, Restart atau
Shutdown terhadap PC anda. Perlu diperhatikan bahwa pada Linux, sangat bahaya mematikan PC
langsung dari tombol Power, karena hal ini akan mengakibatkan proses unmount HDD yang tidak
sempurna dan berefek pada kerusakan file-file anda.

Cara Install File tar.gz di Linux

Kalau mau instal file tar.gz, ekstrak terlebih dulu file tersebut. Bisa lewat file manager (Konqueror atau Nautilus). Klik kanan pilih extract here. Atau lewat terminal konsole

$ tar xzvf nama file.tar.gz

Terus masuk ke direktori tempat file hasil ekstrak kemudian baca file README atau INSTALL file tersebut sebagai petunjuk utama instalasi file.

Tap secara umum, sebagian besar instalasi paket tarbal (tar.gz atau tar.bz2) bisa melalui langkah-langkah berikut (lewat terminal)

$ cd folder ekstrak
$./configure

pastikan saat ini tidak ada masalah. Jika ada paket-paket lain yg harus diinstal, instal terlebih dulu paket-paket yg dibutuhkan.

Lalu lakukan kompilasi

$make

Lalu install (sebagai root)
$su
#make install

Mengubah (konversi) tabel excel ke html script

Mungkin ada diantara teman-teman yang sering membuat tabel saat akan membuat website/blog. Anda bisa memanfaatkan tool berikut untuk membantu anda mengubah tabel excel tersebut ke dalam bentuk html script. Jadi anda cuma meng-copy tabel tersebut selajutnya paste di website converter kemudian anda mendapatkan script htmlnya yang bisa anda sisipkan di halaman web anda.

Untuk memulai konversi:
1. Buka excel anda, copy tabel yang akan di konversi
2. Buka website tableizer
3. masukkan (paste) tabel excel di web tersebut

4. klik tombol tableize it

5. Copy script html ke web /blog anda

Tidak selamanya Software Versi Terbaru Lebih Baik

Kadangkala kita temui suatu versi program yang baru ternyata tidak lebih baik di banding versi sebelumnya, bahkan kadang lebih buruk. Kurang lebih ditemukan 13 aplikasi program dimana pengguna lebih menyukai versi sebelumnya daripada yang terbaru.

Developer software selalu ingin Anda mempercayai bahwa setiap produk terbaru mereka akan selalu lebih baik, padahal tak jarang banyak kekurangan yang mereka sembunyikan dibalik kecepatan prosesor dan RAM yang lebih tinggi dari requirements sebelumnya. Banyak aplikasi yang dewasa ini selalu menyiratkan bahwa versi terbarunya dibuat untuk mengatasi kebutuhan atas kemajuan pemakaian software. Tetapi seperti yang kita ketahui, tidak selamanya hal itu benar.

Kita semua pastinya ingat bagaimana aplikasi perangkat lunak (software) itu sendiri berkembang dari yang paling sederhana hanya berukuran sekitar 1 MB hingga menjadi sebuah aplikasi raksasa dengan ukuran yang tidak pernah terbayangkan sebelumnya hingga kita memerlukan seorang ahli untuk menerangkannya. Pada perkembangannya kadangkala sebuah aplikasi membuang beberapa fitur terbaiknya hanya supaya dapat mengembangkan fitur lebih kompleks yang nantinya diharapkan mempunyai nilai jual lebih tinggi. Hal ini dapat kita lihat dari semakin 'rakus'-nya sebuah aplikasi memakan space dalam sistem komputer kita. Tentu saja pemakai sering tidak menyadarinya, karena lebih suka dibuai dengan tampilan interface yang lebih indah, tombol-tombol yang cantik, yang mungkin sebenarnya tidak begitu berguna. Namun itulah kenyataanya.

Namun ada satu hal yang harus diingat adalah bahwa jika kita memutuskan untuk bertahan memakai versi software yang lama, maka pastikan bahwa dari segi keamanan, aplikasi yang lain dapat mendukung. Sebab seringkali suatu versi terbaru dari sebuah aplikasi memakai celah keamanan sebagai senjata untuk memaksa penggunanya untuk beralih kepada versi terbaru yang dikeluarkan, dan resiko seperti ini harus diperhitungkan dengan baik.

Masalah Potensial Keamanan iPhone

iPhone sebagai produk keluaran terbaru dari Apple telah banyak mengundang perhatian para hacker untuk mencobai keamanannya. Yang unik dari iPhone adalah bahwa produk ini tidak dilengkapi dengan software pengaman. Namun di lain pihak, Apple juga tidak mengijinkan pemakai iPhone untuk menambahkan software pengaman sebagai langkah antisipasi untuk menghindarkan iPhone dari infeksi virus-virus software. Namun saat iPhone terhubung ke Internet, kemungkinan tersebut tetap saja terbuka, kata Marius van Oers, seorang peneliti security dari McAfee's AVERT Labs di Amsterdam. Dia sendiri tidak mau menyebutkan secara spesifik celah keamanan yang dimaksud, namun dia menyebutkan beberapa cara untuk menemukan jalan masuknya.

Apple sendiri bergantung pada pengembang dalam menciptakan aplikasi Web-based yang akan diakses secara langsung menggunakan Safari Web Browser. Menurut Oers, browser Safari ini sendiri diklaim mempunyai kelemahan yang dapat membuat hacker mendapatkan kode ilegal dari sistem yang sedang berjalan.

Masih menurut Oers, “Adalah wajar bagi seseorang untuk berkirim SMS maupun email dengan menggunakan link web. Dan sekali terkoneksi dengan link web tertentu, server dapat menyusupkan kode ke dalam iPhone, jika sekali saja hal ini terjadi maka kendali Anda akan segera berpindah”.

Hal yang terjadi pada browser Safari tersebut ditemukan oleh Independent Security Evaluators, sebuah perusahaan yang hadir pada Konferensi Keamanan Black Hat bulan Agustus yang lalu. Dari sebuah situs, para peneliti memasukkan kode ke dalam iPhone dan menyerobot pesan text, nomor telepon serta email terbaru yang masuk. Sejak saat itu Apple memperbaiki kekurangannya tersebut.

Oers memaparkan pandangannya mengenai iPhone ini pada Virus Bulletin Security di Vienna. Apple juga mengjinkan pemakaian Javascript pada saat iPhone terhubung ke Internet. Lebih lanjut, aplikasi multimedia Apple, QuickTime juga cenderung mempunyai kelemahan dalam konsep eksploitasi web.

Namun begitu, iPhone tetap populer di pasar Amerika dan Eropa dalam 6 minggu terakhir ini, sehingga Apple mungkin dapat mengharapkan lebih banyak campur tangan hacker untuk mengganggunya.

Hacker yang mengganggu ke dalam sebuah peralatan memang relatif lebih sedikit dibandingkan dengan yang mengganggu sistem komputer desktop. Namun beberapa aplikasi hacker kini telah dibuat untuk peralatan mobile, termasuk diantaranya untuk menghubungi ulang nomor telepon atau mengirim text ke nomor-nomor telepon milik hacker yang mendapatkan penghasilan darinya.

Mungkin kesempatan para hacker saat ini kecil, namun di masa yang akan datang kesempatan seperti itu bukan tidak mungkin akan meningkat, walaupun kita semua tidak mengharapkannya.(dna)

Counter Strike 1.6

Counter Strike is a video gamdesigned for the Xbox gaming console and personal computers. It is played first-person mode that involves shooting your enemies, with weapons you will find in the world today. Counter Strike is a Series game with Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike on Xbox. To beat the game you must beat your enemies and complete the task before they do.

Pros

The first Pro I guess would be that it is has a specific rating for children 13 and up, however it is up to the parents to decide if their children are really mature enough to play it. The amount of resources needed to play the game are another Pro with only Windows needed along with a 500 MHZ Processor, 96 MB of Ram, a Keyboard and mouse. To play it on the computer you have a couple of choices making this another Pro, with either a CD or Streaming Video, so you don’t have to run out and buy it to try it.

Cons

As always there are cons to something or another. One such con is that it is very life like, which is fine for adults and more mature teenagers. There are cheaters in the game as well but the creators and administrators for each game have a tendency to keep an eye out for this and limit what dead players and other player can do. Many people complain that it reflects on society causing another con, but I have found in my experience it is better not to throw stones than have someone throw some at you.

Summary

The summary is going to be slightly larger than the rest of the article since this gives me a chance to make any final comments. My first comment is that it is a game and has to be treated that way. I always have a problem with people who make waves about something that no else noticed until they pointed it out, and the ones who generally make the biggest waves are the one who you would think wouldn’t have been there in the first place. Now back to the game, when you start out you is given $800, which can be the administrator, two magazines of ammunition, a knife, and a pistol. You will be given a few seconds in which to buy equipment at the start up, during this time you cannot attack or be attacked, as well no walking or moving. I will have to give into the fold and rate this game 9 out of 10.

Note: During our tests we noticed that this version (Msn messenger 7.5) is more stable than "Live". So we recommend this version over Live. Please keep in mind that Win95 and WinNT4 are not supported in MSN Messenger versions after 5.0.

Short review:
Pros:
- MSN Messenger 7.5 has a new self detect feature for when you cannot seem to get online.
-Welcome to MSN Messenger Screen that points out how to use Shared searches, Video conversations so you can see your loved one smile while you tell them the joke.
- Nudge key: useful feature.. if you want users attention just click this button and it will make sound alert on your friends PC.
- MSN Messenger 7.5 also has quick buttons on the Messenger now so you can switch back from seeing who is online, to creating your own Windows Live Space while entering into various contests where you can win great prizes.
Cons:
Well some of the features mentioned above are not free like the Winks, backgrounds and more so unless you want to pay stay away from the Get More From Messenger Button.However one thing to point out about the winks is that when you open a MSN Messenger Chat window you will see winks pre-installed and more than enough to fit your humorous side. I wrote about Nudge key in pros section... this same key can be also annoying if you use is too often.

BROWSER "Donat" Untuk Android

"DONAT" untuk Android Siap Download

Para pengembang smartphone kini tak perlu lagi menanti kedatangan update terbaru dari sistem operasi Android yang diberi nama kode "Donut". Software Development Kit (SDK) untuk Android 1.6 itu kini telah tersedia untuk didownload dari http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.6_r1/index.html.
Dengan Donut SDK, android dapat beroperasi di ponsel CDMA. Rilis terbaru untuk sistem operasi mobile itu pun ditambah dengan teknologi text-to-speech API (application programming interface) untuk membantu para pengembang dalam membuat aplikasi untuk Android.
Selain itu, Donut juga dilengkapi dengan fasilitas quick search box yang disebut "Android Search". Fasilitas ini tampil seperti feature "Spotlight" pada ponsel iPhone. Pencarian dapat dilakukan secara lokal di ponsel pengguna atau melalui internet. Donut pun dilengkapi dengan update untuk interface kamera ponsel, yang membuat waktu loading kamera menjadi 39% lebih cepat. Ada pula tampilan detail indikator penggunaan baterai untuk setiap aplikasi yang dibuka pada ponsel Android.
Sebelum Donut, Google telah merilis update untuk Android pada Mei 2009. Update tersebut dinamakan Cupcake.
Ponsel - ponsel yang dilengkapi dengan Donut diperkirakan akan muncul sekitar Oktober 2009.
